Performance Date: October 2-4. 9-11, 23-25 (9 performances)

Venue: Camp Pouch (Staten Island, NY); Rehearsing in Manhattan

Contract: AEA Showcase Code / $300 Stipend

SEEKING: AEA & non-union actors of all ethnicities, races and gender identities for a reconceptualized, outdoor & immersive site-specific production of Into The Woods. The production will be ensemble-driven with brand new acoustic orchestrations, and select roles will double as actor/musicians.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:  To be considered for an audition with specific show material, please send your headshot, resume and musical theatre reel to intothewoodsnyccasting@gmail.com. Reels of past performance footage are also acceptable.

 

Please format your subject line as follows: “[FIRST NAME LAST NAME] / [ROLE] Submission”. Audition submissions must be received no later than Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

 

After the submission deadline, we will request selected actors to submit self-tapes with sides and cuts from the show. 

 

NOTE: Please specify in your submission notes if you play an instrument. Instrumentalists are NOT required for the majority of roles and are specificed below in the breakdown.

 

NARRATOR/CAMP LEADERS – Two camp leaders who narrate the story and guide us on our journey into the woods. Warm and outdoorsy folk who invite us into myth and ritual. Full of wonder and curiosity. All genders. Must be proficient in guitar or accordion. Music direction experience is a plus. Please specify in your submission notes.

 

CINDERELLA – a fair young maiden who wishes to go to the King’s festival. Abused by her Stepfamily, neurotic, and often unable to make up her mind. Heartfelt and talks to birds. A charming light soprano with a great sense of humor and a maternal instinct. Female, 20-30.

 

JACK – a sad young lad who wishes to keep his best friend, Milky-White, by his side. A naive, adventurous boy full of wonder and mischief who falls into kleptomania. A lovable and scrappy tenor with loads of energy and spirit. Male, 18-25.

 

THE BAKER – a childless, cursed Baker on a quest to undo the Witch’s curse all on his own. A working-class man filled with self-doubt and something to prove. Assertive, sometimes stubborn, and troubled by the absence of his father. A compelling actor/singer with wit, pathos, and personability. Male, 30-40.

 

THE BAKER’S WIFE – a strong-minded, working-class woman who wishes to have a child. Savvy, clever, and grounded. Has a secret desire for something beyond her current life and marriage. A relatable and nuanced mezzo-soprano with strength and humor. Female, 30-40.

 

STEPMOTHER – Cinderella’s wicked and abusive Stepmother. A materialistic social climber who will do anything to make her daughters rich and famous. Will double as smaller roles throughout the story. Any gender, 40-55. Proficient in violin, viola or a woodwind instrument a plus but not required. 

 

CINDERELLA’S PRINCE – a strapping, vain man of royalty searching for the maiden that lost her golden slipper. Addicted to the next best thing and disloyal to a fault. A strong baritenor with physical command and wit. Will double as smaller roles throughout the story. Male, 30-40

 

RAPUNZEL’S PRINCE – a strapping, vain man of royalty longing for the maiden locked in a tower. Like his brother – addicted to the next best thing and disloyal to a fault. A strong baritenor with physical command and wit. Will double as smaller roles throughout the story. Male, 30-40

 

JACK’S MOTHER – a weary, working class woman facing difficult financial challenges and trying to keep her “head in the clouds” son grounded. Bold, opinionated, and ultimately good-hearted. A character actress with a strong voice and personality. Female, 40-55. Proficient in violin, viola or a woodwind instrument a plus but not required.

 

LITTLE RED – a strong-willed, if sometimes obnoxious, young girl heading to visit Granny with a heavy sweet tooth. Fesity, outspoken and quick-witted. Loves her cape. A comedic actress with a bright voice. Female, 18-25. Proficient in violin/viola or a woodwind instrument a plus but not required.

 

THE WITCH – an intimidating, supernatural old enchantress who later transforms into a glamorous, seductive woman. Deeply wounded by her traumatic past of betrayal and highly protective of her kidnapped daughter, Rapunzel. A striking and arresting actress with a powerful belt, presence, and physical dexterity. Female, 35-50.

 

THE WOLF – a predatory hunter on the prowl for hungry little girls. A real outdoorsman type with an affinity for camouflage and dirt bikes. A rugged baritone. Male, 30-50. 

 

RAPUNZEL – a maiden with extremely long hair sheltered in a tower by her adoptive mother, the Witch. Troubled and childlike, and yearns to see the world. Her isolation and trauma leaves her emotionally unstable. A light soprano with wide-eyed wonder and emotional depth. Female, 18-25. Must be proficient in violin, viola or a woodwind instrument. THE MYSTERIOUS MAN – a solitary mystical wanderer with sage advice and a sense of knowing. Puckish with a sad undercurrent. Haunted by his sordid, regretful past which has led to his isolation. A mischievous actor with a gentle singing voice. Male, 50-65.
